GLEN DICKSON - TORONTO YACHT SALES GTA EAST - 1-833-UCYACHT EXT 2002

This long distance cruiser is unlike anything typically seen in North American markets. Redundancy can be found everywhere, with all major ships systems, including the engine, having a backup! Designed by Peter Rommel from Berlin, and built in the Damstra Shipyard in the Netherlands from 1996-2000, she was launched in 2001, and is the largest yacht in the Outborn series. Aluminum hull, hydraulic lifting keel (6-10'), twin rudders, stabilizers, twin wheels, and even twin 50HP Volvo Penta sail drives to rotate the vessel in confined spaces.

Fast for an offshore cruiser at 8 knots in moderate winds due to her extra tall rig, she can be comfortably sailed singlehanded from the cockpit using her hydraulic systems for in-boom and forestay furling, halyard winch and lifting keel. Massive two-speed self-tailing Harken winches make it easy to handle the jib sheets. The cockpit includes a large, well-protected seating area along with separate helm seating.

Built for passage making, the Outborn features an 8mm aluminum hull, 1000L diesel tank, and 1000L fresh water. accommodations are designed for a single family plus crew, along with loads of storage. The bow is designed as a workshop, but can be converted to additional quarters.

The extensive galley in the middle of the cabin includes a fridge, freezer, microwave and washing machine. The main salon is bright with good visibility all around and seating for 6. On the starboard side there is a large chart table and a pilot’s berth that provides more seating. The luxurious captain’s quarters located aft has 6 windows and includes a near Queen-sized bed, integrated L-shaped couch, ensuite head, and air conditioning. The engine room is located below the salon.

The Outborn 52  is sea-kindly and minimizes healing with the keel extended. Long voyages can benefit from the integrated water ballast system that can pump water between two ~400L ballast tanks, one on each side. Water ballast is not necessary however. As an aluminum ship, she is low maintenance. The teak deck is in great shape.

If you are considering cruising to far-off destinations, the Outborn 52 requires a serious look.
